DGBE is the standard tuning for baritone ukulele and matches the top four strings of a guitar. It’s a great option for uke players looking for a fuller, lower-register tone or guitarists wanting a compact travel companion.
Guitarists can use their familiar top-four-string chord shapes. Ukulele players can also use the shapes they already know — the intervals stay the same, though the actual notes are a perfect fourth lower (your standard C shape now sounds as a G).
.042 wound D string
.033 wound G string
.031 fluorocarbon B string
.026 fluorocarbon E string
Setup note: We’ll need to slightly widen the G-string bridge slot to fit the wound string (standard ukulele strings still work fine if you switch back later). Wound strings wear carbon-fiber polycarbonate frets faster than fluorocarbon, so we recommend regular use of fret lubricant to help minimize wear over time.
